Boyd Meets Girl pairs American cellist Laura Metcalf with Australian classical guitarist Rupert Boyd, in a duo which performs an engaging, eclectic blend of transcriptions and original works from the baroque through to modern day. Based in New York City, both Boyd and Metcalf are respected soloists in their own right, with Boyd being described as "truly evocative" by the Washington Post, and Metcalf praised for her "brilliant" playing by Gramophone Magazine. The duo has concertized extensively throughout the USA, Australia, Nepal and India. Their appearance at SubCulture is part of a 32-city world tour celebrating the release of their self-titled debut album, which reached No. 3 on the Billboard Traditional Classical Chart. About the album, which features music from Bach to Michael Jackson, critics have said the following:
"The pair have an easy, natural chemistry that translates to every style they tackle on this eclectic outing."
-Classical Guitar Magazine
"There is a sense of lightness and joy that permeates Boyd Meets Girl, the works are uniformly a pleasure to listen to, and, no doubt, to perform – but there is also plenty to sink your teeth into."
"At the outset it is evident that the pairing works brilliantly… the duo transitions effortlessly between exuberance and reflection."
"A musical match made in heaven."
